Ocho Rios was once a sleepy fishing village until it was discovered by tourists. It is now second only to Montego Bay in
importance to the tourism
industry in Jamaica.
Also a very popular destination for cruise ships it is visited by many people from all over the world each year.
Ocho Rios' best known attraction is Dunn's River Falls. Visited by thousands year, Dunn's River Falls cascades down an approximate distance of 600 feet into the sea. Fed by springs located in the hills above, visitors take pleasure in 'climbing' the water fall as the water rushes around them. There is a Dunn's River feast every week with dancing, music and swimming. Some of Jamaica's best resorts are located in close to the city of Ocho Rios, including one of our very favorites, Prospect Plantation Villas. Ocho Rios has gained substantially in popularity among vacationers in the past few years as the north coast highway is being improved. From the international airport at Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is about a ninety minute drive. There are a number of good restaurants, a lively night club scene at Margaritaville as well as the nation's two most popular attractions in Jamaica -- Dunn's River Falls and Dolphin Cove, where visitors are able to swim and interact with Bottlenose Dolphins. |
