Alonia Apartments *** (Melidoni)
Approx 1800m North West of the village at a height of 300m one reaches
the famous cave of “Gerontospilios”, which is archaeologically and
historically of great significance. The
beautiful village square has tavernas, cafes and a mini market along
with the Cultural Society of Melidonis, which organises a variety of
interesting local events. There is also a petrol station in the village
and a bakery, which belongs to the owner of Alonia Apartments, and where
bread is still baked in traditional wood ovens.
More shops, a bank, a post office, the telephone company and a medical
centre can be found in Perama, some 4.5 km away, and in Bali (with its
sandy coves) 11 km away. Rethymnon with further long sandy beaches and
its beautiful Venetian harbour and impressive hill fortress, is 28 km
away. The
brand new Alonia Apartments are situated at the entrance to the village,
in 2000 sqm grounds, surrounded by little stonewalls, young fruit trees,
flower gardens and a 50sqm swimming pool. The apartments can be let individually
or all together as one villa. The apartments are situated on the first
floor of the house (above the open, unfinished ground floor used
currently by the owner as a storage area) and have balconies with views
over the village and the countryside. Two
types of apartments are available:
Type A: 2 Studios (27sqm each) with a shared main entrance for 2-3
people. Each of the studios have a bed/living room with twin beds, a
sofa bed and a kitchenette, and a shower room/wc.
This is an ideal spot for walkers and those keen on a holiday in
beautiful countryside, who enjoy Cretan village life and want to be
within easy reach of some tavernas and shops. For those who wish to
explore other areas of Crete, car hire is recommended and space for
parking is available. |
