This little village is situated on the south
coast near to Myrtos and Ierapetra, 85 km from Heraklion, on the shores of
the Libyan Sea.
Local people from the neighbouring, traditional village of
Psari Forada, built summer houses here and used it as a base for fishing
and mooring their boats, thus forming a small community.
The locals earn
their living mainly from agricultural produce, in particular bananas, so
therefore the area is relatively untouched by tourism. Village life seems
to centre around the open square on the promenade, where a few shops,
café-bars and tavernas can be found. Many Greek people pass through to
sample the excellent variety of fresh fish. The tamarisk-shaded seafront
hosts tavernas and café-bars where one can enjoy beautiful views out to
the sea. The quiet, laid back way of life of the village is ideal for
those visitors wishing to escape from the bustle of daily life and also
for keen walkers eager to explore the wonderful countryside.
